The San Gabriel Valley Child Abuse Prevention Council is made up of a group of individual community volunteers whose main purpose is to reduce the incidents of child abuse in the San Gabriel Valley. Many of them work in agencies, go to school and are community members or parents who just wish to help.
Child Abuse is a major problem that has life changing consequences and long term effects such as overloading our courts, prisons, mental health facilities and unemployment lines. In the East San Gabriel Valley there were 543 substantiated cases of child abuse in 2007. The system to help these families is overwhelmed.
Our council tries to assist by distributing material for parents and care providers as well as offering training to help them.
